- Around the areola
- Around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease
- Around the areola, vertically down from the areola and horizontally along the breast crease
Will this procedure require a hospital stay?
No, this is an out patient procedure. You should plan for it to be an all-day event, however, because we ask that you arrive 1.5 - 2 hrs prior to your breast lift procedure. And after the procedure, you will be in recovery for a minimum of 1 hour prior to be released to go home.
What type of anesthesia is used?
You will be under general anesthesia for the breast lift (mastopexy) procedure.
When can I return to normal activity?
It is important for you to be up and walking the day of your surgery. You will be able to shower the morning following your surgery, and should continue to walk periodically. No bouncing, jarring or aerobic activities for 2 weeks following your surgery. After your 2-week follow-up appointment, our office may release you to gradually resume your usual exercise/activities.
How much pain can I expect?
It varies by individual. Discomfort is common and can be controlled by medication.
Can I exercise?
You cannot engage in any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for several weeks.
How long until I see the final results?
Results will appear over a few months as breast shape and position continue to settle.
Will I have drains?
No, Dr. Atagi typically doesn't use drains for the mastopexy (breast lift) procedure.
Will I have to have an implant if I have a breast lift?
Not all women need an implant with their breast lift. Some women, however, require more fullness, so an implant may be an option for them.
After a breast lift, will my breasts look smaller?
During the mastopexy (breast lift) procedure, excess skin from the lower portion of the breast is removed, so many patients do feel like their breasts are smaller after a lift.
