How soon after the procedure can I wear make-up?
You can wear eye makeup as soon as you feel up to it. However, it is important to keep any foundation, bronzer or creams away from the incision area for at least 2 weeks. At your two-week follow-up visit, we will evaluate your incision to make sure you can start applying makeup again.
How soon after the procedure can I have a facial treatment, such as Microdermabrasion, Dermaplane, or Facial?
We recommend that you wait four weeks after your chin augmentation before you have a facial treatment. It is important to make sure all incisions are healing and are completely closed prior to having any treatment. Even after waiting four weeks, it is very important that you inform your skincare clinician of your procedure. That way, he or she can take extra precautions and avoid the incision area, if necessary.
Where will the incision be?
The incision is made in the naturally occurring submental crease, which is just below the natural chin contours.
Will I have a screw placed in my implant and chin?
Dr. Tanya Atagi prefers not to use screws during the placement of a chin implant. A pocket is formed using the underlying chin muscle, and the implant is placed into that pocket.
Do I have to wear a garment after surgery?
We do have you wear a compression garment for one week after surgery. This helps keep the implant in place and helps minimize any swelling. At your one-week follow-up appointment, we will let you know if you need to continue to wear the garment.
Can I wash my face immediately after the Chin Augmentation surgery?
Do not wash your face until 24 hours after your surgery. Only then, you may shower with lukewarm water. However, do not let the shower hit you directly on your face. Gently wash your face in the sink using only soap and water (no cleansing creams). Gently pat dry with a towel.
How soon can I go back to work?
As long as you are not taking any pain medications and have no heavy lifting requirements, you can go back to work within 3-5 days after your surgery. Many of our patients choose to go back to work after one week, due to residual swelling and bruising.
Will I have stitches?
You will have stitches. Some will dissolve, and the remaining stitches will be removed at your one-week follow-up appointment.
Can a Chin Implant be removed?
A chin implant can be removed or replaced for a different size. However, we recommend waiting 6-12 months after your first procedure before having another surgery on your chin.
When will I see my results?
You will see immediate results. Due to post-operative swelling, many patients feel that the implant is too big. Please note that as your swelling goes down, the implant will become more proportionate with the rest of your facial contours.
What are the risks of a Chin Augmentation surgery?
There are risks with any surgery. During your initial consultation with Dr. Tanya Atagi, she will review these risks with you. They include hematoma, seroma, numbness from nerve damage to the lower part of your face and/or chin. Additional risks may include raised or discolored scarring, as well as an implant shift or repositioning.
How long does a Chin Implant last?
The Chin Implant is designed to last for your entire lifetime. There is no need to worry about the implant changing in shape over time.
