How soon after the procedure can I shave?
You can shave around your face as soon as you feel up to it, but avoid the chin area until your one-week follow-up appointment, when we will confirm that you are healing appropriately. After your one-week visit, you may be able to shave your entire face and chin with a straight edge razor. After your two-week visit to our office, you may shave your entire face with either an electric or straight edge razor.
Is it okay to let my facial hair grow after I have surgery?
We recommend that you avoid shaving immediately after your surgery, and we prefer that you allow your hair to grow. Facial hair will not change or affect your results.
Where will the incision be?
The incision will be made in the naturally occurring submental crease, which is just below the natural chin contours.
Will I have a screw placed in my implant and chin?
Dr. Tanya Atagi prefers not to use screws during the placement of a chin implant. Instead, a pocket is formed using the underlying chin muscle, and the implant is placed into the pocket.
Do I have to wear a garment after surgery?
We do have you wear a compression garment for one week after surgery. This helps keep the implant in place and helps minimize any swelling. At your one-week follow-up appointment, we will let you know if you need to continue to wear the garment.
Can I wash my face after the Chin Augmentation surgery?
You may shower with lukewarm water 24 hours after your surgery. However, do not let the shower hit you directly on your face. Gently wash your face in the sink using only soap and water (no cleansing creams). Then, gently pat dry with a towel.
How soon can I go back to work?
As long as you are not taking any pain medications and have no heavy lifting requirements, you can go back to work within 3-5 days after your surgery. Many of our patients, however, choose to wait a full week, due to some residual swelling and bruising.
Will I have stitches?
You will have stitches. Some will dissolve, and the rest will be removed at your one-week follow-up appointment.
Can a Chin Implant be removed?
A Chin Implant can be removed or replaced for a different size. However, we recommend that you wait 6-12 months after your first procedure before you have another surgery on your chin.
When will I see my results?
You will see immediate results. Due to post-operative swelling, some patients initially worry that their implant is too big. It is important to note that as the swelling goes down, it will become more proportionate with the rest of your facial contours. Our patients are very pleased with their results.
What are the risks of a Chin Augmentation surgery?

The risks include hematoma, seroma, and numbness from nerve damage to the lower part of your face and/or chin. How long does a Chin Implant last?
