What areas can be treated?
Your arms, breast/chest, back, abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, and neck can be treated with VASER® Lipo.
How is Vaser® LipoSelection different?
Less traumatic than traditional liposuction procedures, Vaser® Lipo uses ultrasound technology to gently contour your body by removing undesirable fat. Ultrasound is able to distinguish targeted fat from other important tissues, and then liquefy it without disturbing such tissues. By adding this step, Vaser® Lipo promotes excellent results, a much faster healing process, and less discomfort.
How long will I be hospitalized?
This can be an out-patient procedure. However, if multiple areas are addressed or a large volume removed, we may recommend an overnight stay.
Am I a good candidate for Vaser® Lipo?
Most people who maintain a consistent diet and exercise plan are strong candidates for Vaser® Lipo. However, everyone's anatomy and health status are unique, so a consultation with Dr. Atagi is essential to assess if it is the right procedure for you.
Is VASER® Lipo permanent?
We like to think of VASER Lipo as a permanent fix; however, it is not a weight loss solution. After the procedure, you must continue to watch what you eat and continue with your workout regimen. Only then, will the results be optimal.
What if I lose or gain weight after the procedure?
If you lose weight after the VASER Lipo procedure, it will only help improve your results. If you gain weight after your treatment, the fat will usually be distributed proportionately over your entire body. Fat is necessary for a healthy body, and even after the VASER Lipo treatment, fatty tissues that were not removed through your procedure can expand via weight gain, causing a change in your once defined contours.
How much weight will I lose after VASER® Lipo?
While you will notice the aesthetics results of VASER Lipo, you should not expect to lose weight. While pounds are not erased by this procedure, your body contours will be well-defined and your clothes will likely fit loosely.
How long is the recovery for Vaser® Lipo?
The day of your procedure, we would like you up and walking around. The next day, you can shower. As long as you are not taking any pain medications, you should also be able to drive and resume minimal activities. You will experience some swelling, numbness, soreness, bruising and discomfort for approximately 7-10 days.
When will I look my best?
Your ultimate results can take anywhere from 3-6 months.
Do I have to go under general anesthesia for the Vaser® Lipo procedure?
If you are an appropriate candidate, Dr. Atagi can perform the Vaser® Lipo procedure in our office using only local anesthesia. If you would rather have general anesthesia, it will be performed in the hospital or at an accredited out-patient surgical facility.
Do I have to go to the hospital for the procedure?
Not necessarily. Depending on the length of the procedure, you may have the procedure performed in Dr. Atagi's office under local anesthesia.
What kind of scar will I have?
You will have several small scars, depending on the area(s) being treated.
What possible risks or complications should I consider before making my decision?
Complications are uncommon, but it is important to address them in deciding whether Vaser® Lipo is the right choice for you. First are the typical complications related to any surgery, including a reaction to the anesthesia, unseemly scars, delayed healing, or nerve injury. Potential problems specific to Vaser® Lipo include hyper or hypo-pigmentation, changes in sensation, visible lumps or bumps, general contour irregularities, and loose skin. At your consultation appointment with Dr. Atagi, she will review these risks and complications further with you.
How many visits will this take?
After your initial consultation, we only need one pre-operative visit 1-2 weeks prior to the procedure. During this visit, we will review your history, do a brief physical exam, obtain basic pre-operative laboratory tests as needed, and review your consent. This will ensure that you have the opportunity to have all of your questions answered. You will also receive your prescriptions at this time. Post-operatively, we will follow you for 1 year.
Can I keep the procedure confidential given the recovery process?
The recovery period is relatively quick, so you may return to work and social obligations within a few days. We do ask that you wear a special garment for several weeks to months, which will help minimize the swelling; however, it can be hidden easily under clothing.
