Denver’s Dr. Tanya Atagi Says Tummy Tuck is a Popular Body Contouring Choice

July 6, 2012 by Atagi Plastic Surgery & Skin Aesthetics

According to the ASPS, the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) was one of the top five surgical procedures requested by women in 2011.  This is not a surprise, according to Dr. Atagi, who has seen the same trend at Atagi Plastic Surgery and Atagi Skin Aesthetics in Lone Tree, Colorado.

Weight fluctuation, heredity or simply aging in both men and women with the addition of pregnancy in women, can leave the abdomen with excess and damaged skin as well as laxity and separation of the abdominal wall musculature.  While diet and exercise can help reduce fat and tone around the midsection, sometimes this is simply not enough.  As our abdominoplasty before and after photos show, the procedure removes excess fat and skin while tightening the underlying muscles to create a flat and contoured abdomen.

Of course, the first step for anyone considering an abdominoplasty is a consultation.  During this visit, Dr. Atagi will review a patient’s goals and medical history and make recommendations for the best results.  Once surgery is planned, Dr. Atagi will remove excess fat and skin and reposition separated muscles to reconstruct the natural internal support system of the abdominal wall.  The result is a slim, firm abdominal profile.  Results are long-lasting and well maintained with a balanced diet and regular exercise. Although the procedure will leave a scar stretching between the hips, Dr. Atagi will position it to be concealed in the bathing suit line.

Since an abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure, a patient can expect that anesthesia will be used and should plan for a “light duty” recovery period of about 10 to 14 days, with no heavy lifting for about 6 weeks.  According to Dr. Atagi, most patients are delighted with their improved look, with many reporting increased self-esteem and confidence.
