Hair Rejuvenation 101: Transform Your Hair with the Latest Treatments
Hair loss can be an emotional journey, often starting slowly and unnoticed. For example, one day you might notice a few extra strands on your pillow, and over time, the thinning becomes more apparent. Whether it’s due to genetics, stress, or hormonal changes, hair loss can feel like a loss of identity. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, approximately 80 million people in the U.S. suffer from some form of hair loss, with men being more likely to experience male-pattern baldness. Women, on the other hand, often face diffuse thinning or a widening part, which can be just as distressing. Understanding the cause of your hair loss is the first step to reclaiming your confidence and finding the right treatment.
Hair loss affects millions of people of all age groups and genders worldwide. Hair loss can be stressful and embarrassing. Understanding why you are losing your hair and what treatment options are available for your type of hair loss is an important first step to getting your hair back.
What causes hair loss
Hair loss is usually multi-factorial and can be due to genetics, hormones, medications, medical conditions, stress, lifestyle factors and/or age. The most common type of hair loss is hereditary hair loss or androgenetic alopecia. Androgenetic alopecia is also called male pattern and female pattern hair loss. Men usually see a receding hair line and balding crown while women see a widening part and overall hair thinning along with a failure to grow the hair long.
Hormonal Changes
Hormonal changes can be a strong influencer of hair health. Many conditions that cause a fluctuation in hormones such as pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and thyroid disorders can lead to hair thinning. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and certain birth control pills may influence hormone levels and result in hair shedding.
Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata, lupus and other autoimmune diseases can cause hair loss.
Medications
Many Prescription medications have hair loss as side effect. Medications for cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis and depression have been known to be a contributing factor in hair loss. Chemotherapy is well-known for causing temporary hair loss.
Stress and Trauma
Stress or trauma-Physical or emotional stress can lead to telogen effluvium, a type of hair loss that causes temporary shedding. Physical or emotional trauma such as loss of a loved one, job loss, break-up, surgery, severe illness or any traumatic event may trigger a telogen effluvium. If the stress is prolonged the hair loss can become severe.
Diet and Nutrition
Diet and Nutrition -Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is crucial for keeping hair healthy.
Restrictive diets with insufficient protein and nutrient poor, junk food rich diets can result in a lack of nutrients such as iron, protein, vitamin D, B and Zinc. Lack of these essential nutrients can contribute to hair loss. People with gastrointestinal absorption issues may eat a healthy diet but do not absorb the nutrients needed to grow a healthy head of hair.
Hair Styling and Damage
Hair styling, including frequent heat styling and chemical treatments can damage the hair shaft leading to hair breakage. Frequent tight hairstyles (ponytails, braids) can put too much tension on the hair follicles resulting in damaged, weakened follicles and poor hair growth.
Aging
Aging -The hair becomes thinner and more fragile with fewer active follicles and a reduced growth rate as people age, which results in decreased density and quality of hair.
A hair specialist can identify the reason for your hair loss and tailor treatments to the cause.

XTC Hair Boost Plus System
The XTC Boost Plus System™ are products to promote healthy hair growth for patients diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern hair loss. One major cause of this condition is high DHT levels in the scalp, which leads to hair miniaturization and shorter hair growth cycles. This unique system contains science-backed ingredients, including natural DHT inhibitors to promote growth of thicker, longer and stronger hair. The Hair Boost Plus System includes the following products:
- Xtreme Hair Complex™ provides eight natural DHT inhibitors along with essential nutrients needed for health and hair growth that are often absent in our daily diet.
- Bio Cure Shampoo™ is an herbal shampoo containing 11 natural DHT inhibitors, designed to gently cleanse all hair types. Free of sulfates, cocamide DEA and parabens, this shampoo promotes healthy follicle stimulation and the production of hair-stimulating keratin protein while providing moisture and shine.
- Scalp Prep™ removes excess sebum, oils and debris from the scalp, allowing fragile hairs to grow and improving product absorption. Scalp Prep™ enhances the absorption of topical hair growth products, allowing for better results.
- Xtreme Hair Boost Plus™ is a 5% Minoxidil solution featuring 11 pharmaceutical-grade natural DHT inhibitors in a low-alcohol carrier with the addition of aloe vera to calm inflammation. When combined with Scalp Prep, this lotion improves the delivery of active ingredients to the follicles, improving hair growth at the source.
- Growth Factors Plus™ is a powerful combination of six different types of growth factor proteins, boasting a growth factor concentration of of 24,000 ng/ml. This product also features five naturally derived ingredients that promote hair growth, including leaf extracts and noggin. The innovative packaging preserves the growth factors until mixed with the accompanying serum at home, ensuring 99.9% purity.
Platelet Rich Plasma or PRF- (like PRP, but better)
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is a concentrated portion of your own blood, spun at a lower speed than PRP to retain white blood cells, stem cells, and fibrin. This unique mix releases growth factors gradually, making it ideal for hair growth. When injected into the scalp, PRF stimulates blood flow, promotes new hair growth, and reawakens dormant follicles. For optimal results, PRF treatments are administered over several months. You can combine these injections with other hair restoration therapies to enhance benefits. The hair specialist may recommend periodic treatments to maintain results. Additionally, you can apply PRF topically after laser treatment to create microchannels in the scalp, offering a less painful alternative to the injections commonly used by other clinics.
Formula 82M
A non-greasy, quick-dry, more effective alternative to Rogaine®, Formula 82M is a customized compounded prescription solution. Formulated to be non-irritating and highly effective, 82M contains FDA-approved hair growth medication Minoxidil 5%, tretinoin 0.01% (for enhanced penetration and hair growth effect), the anti-inflammatory fluocinolone 0.01%, oleanolic acid (an organic anti-androgen).

Wellness Consult with Besana Health and Wellness
Based on your medical history we may recommend you see one of the Practitioner’s at Besana Health and Wellness. They can help determine if there is an underlying health issue that could be contributing to your hair loss or thinning.
Biopsy
A scalp biopsy is an option if the cause of your hair loss is not clear after evaluation or if prescribed treatments are not effective.
Many dermatologists (though not all) immediately treat hair loss with oral prescription medications that patients must take for life. We have found great success with many
of the other more natural options, so we like to try those first.
Is there downtime?
There is minimal downtime with the in-office procedures, Laser and Keravive, used for hair loss. We ask that you refrain from exercise and hair washing for 12-24 hours after your treatment. We recommend avoiding hair coloring for one week before and one week after your treatments.
How long do the results last?
Treatments for Androgenetic Alopecia are lifelong. Experiencing male or female pattern hair loss is similar to having high blood pressure or diabetes, conditions that require lifelong management with medication. The hair expert may recommend in-office treatments like Laser and Keravive as a package of 4 for optimal results. Maintenance treatments will be recommended on an individual basis, typically one to three times per year. If you have a hair loss condition other than Androgenetic Alopecia or Telogen Effluvium, treatment times can be temporary and may vary.
If you’re struggling with hair loss, don’t wait—take the first step toward restoring your confidence by scheduling a consultation. What’s the root cause of your hair thinning, and what treatment options could work best for you?
