Does “healthy winter skin” sound like an oxymoron to you? We’re here to tell you that “healthy” and “winter skin” needn’t be contradictory terms. Despite the chill in the air, it’s time to reclaim your glow with a few tried-and-true skin care tips from our skin care experts:

Skin care tip #1: Don’t overbathe.

We’re not asking you to skip showering. Rather, in the winter months, try cutting your bathing time down and switching to a milder temperature to avoid stripping your skin. Hot water is harsh on skin, and long, hot showers are extremely drying. If you can keep your showers mild in temperature and shorter, your skin will thank you!

Skin care tip #2: Moisturize immediately after washing (this goes for hand washing during the day and your morning shower).

Washing, even with tepid water, is still very drying on skin. This is why you need to apply moisturizer immediately after washing your hands, face or body. Every time. If you can get into the habit of moisturizing daily, you can often avoid winter skin pitfalls such as redness and irritation.

Skin care tip #3: Switch up your products.

What suited your skin in the summer heat can be drying in the winter. Try switching to an ointment or a thicker, more intensive barrier repair over your lighter lotions. The winter calls for heavier, more lasting moisturizers that seal in hydration while coating your skin with a layer of protection. During your next visit, we can help you find your perfect moisturizer and other replenishing/revitalizing Atagi Skin products.

Skin care tip #4: Cover up.

Our hands are usually the first area to show signs of redness, dryness and irritation. Be sure to protect your skin from the harsh elements by wearing gloves, scarves and other protective gear when braving the cold. Also, when you’re bundling up, opt for nonirritating fabrics that are loose and comfortable on your skin to avoid physical irritation. If your skin is feeling extra dry, look for laundry detergents formulated without harsh chemicals and fragrances that are safe for sensitive skin.

Skin care tip #5: Renew your skin!

Did you know that during the winter months, when you’re cooped up indoors, is an ideal time to undergo laser skin treatments to reverse summer sun damage and stimulate new collagen and elastin growth? Renewing and replenishing your skin with professional skin care treatments and products is the key to enjoying a youthful glow every day of the year — rain, snow or shine.

Are you ready to reclaim your youthful glow this winter? We can’t wait to help! To learn more about achieving healthy winter skin, call 303.327.7300 or request a consultation online today.
