We ask for 2 weeks of non-strenuous activities including no lifting greater than 10-15 lbs. You will wear a supportive and compressive bra for at least 2 weeks and sleeping propped up.
Results
Patients will see immediate results, although final results are evident upwards of 12 months postoperatively once swelling subsides and the tissues settle. You can expect fuller, more proportionate breasts that maintain their shape whether you’re lying down or standing up. Although both saline and silicone gel-filled implants are available to you, we more often use silicone-filled implants with smooth outside shells to optimize aesthetic results. Most women can breastfeed successfully after breast augmentation, especially when implants are placed below the muscle and through an inframammary incision. Dr. Atagi discusses your future family plans during consultation to choose the best surgical approach.
Breast implants are not lifetime devices and may very well need replacement at some point. The risk of rupture increases approximately 1% per year. This said, we have infrequently seen ruptures a year out, but at the same time, have seen implants that are 20-30 years old without problem.
Silicone gel-filled implants feel more like natural breast tissue and minimize potential rippling and wrinkling that might be visible or palpable through the skin. Modern silicone gel implant material is cohesive, tending to ‘stick to itself,’ resulting in fewer leaks into breast tissue and lymph nodes, which was problematic with older implant models. Saline implants are filled with IV fluid. There is potentially more rippling and wrinkling that can be visible or palpable through the skin with saline implants. You will develop a ‘flat tire’ should a saline implant develop a leak.
You should be up and walking and doing your deep breathing immediately following your procedure to prevent blood clots and fevers, respectively. But you must limit strenuous activities for 2 weeks, including lifting over 10-15 lbs. You can resume all usual activities after 2 weeks.
